Le Lopin Comes to Life: A Look Back at Its Inauguration

A few months after the first work began, Le Lopin officially came to life. On August 27, 2026, Simplex employees, partners, guests, and people working in the area gathered in the District Central to inaugurate this new green, food-producing, and community-focused space. It was an opportunity to celebrate how far the project has come, but above all, to see Le Lopin fulfill one of its main purposes for the first time: creating a place where people can meet, connect, and enjoy the neighbourhood.

From an Underused Lot to a Gathering Place

Le Lopin’s story began with an underused space located near our head office in the Acadie/Sauvé area. Together with the SDC District Central, we set out to give it a new purpose and create a place that could benefit the people in the neighbourhood.

Little by little, the site was transformed. The work and various improvements gave rise to a food-producing and educational space inspired by the District Central’s market-gardening history, featuring a variety of edible plants.

We followed this transformation in our first article about the project. Today, a new chapter begins.

Le Lopin Takes Shape

August 27: Le Lopin’s Official Inauguration

Speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, BBQ, a DJ, and, above all, plenty of opportunities to connect: for its official inauguration, Le Lopin became the vibrant gathering place we had envisioned.

Simplex employees, project partners, guests, and people working in the area gathered around the tables and benches to eat, chat, and discover the new space.

The event was attended by André Albert Morin, Member of the National Assembly for Acadie, Maude Théroux-Séguin, Mayor of the Borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville, and Hélène Veilleux, Executive Director of the SDC District Central.

During his remarks, Euclide Véronneau, President of Simplex, reflected on what Le Lopin represents for the company: a way to make a space available to the community and, in our own way, contribute to the vitality of the neighbourhood where we operate.

A Project Rooted in Collaboration

If Le Lopin can now welcome people from the neighbourhood, it’s thanks to a collective effort.

Le Lopin is an initiative of Simplex Tool Rental and the SDC District Central, developed in collaboration with Taktik Design and La Ferme de Rue Montréal.

The project was also made possible through the Fonds Signature métropole, with financial support from the Québec Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MAMH).

This collaboration allowed us to turn an idea into a tangible, accessible space designed to be shared.

 

A Small Lot That Can Make a Big Difference

The work is now complete, but Le Lopin’s story is only just beginning.

This project is part of a broader approach at Simplex: reflecting on the impact we can have on our environment and the communities around us. This commitment is part of our Reflex sustainability approach, with our commitments, actions, and progress outlined in our first Sustainability Report.

For nearly 120 years, our business model has been built on a simple idea: sharing resources so they can benefit as many people as possible. With Le Lopin, this philosophy takes on a new form.

We now hope to see people from the neighbourhood discover the space, stop by, connect, learn, and, above all, make it their own.

Because after imagining Le Lopin and bringing it to life, it’s now up to the people who use it to write the next chapter of its story.
